MTW interested in setting up tractor manufacturing plant in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Minsk Tractor Works (MTW), Belarus, has shown interest in setting up a tractor manufacturing plant in Pakistan in collaboration with Shehzad Trade Links, a Karachi based firm.

Official sources informed here on Friday that this has been decided in principle at a meeting between the Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture (MINFA), Nazar Muhamamd Gondal and the visiting Belarusian delegation led by Alexander. A. Pukhovoy, General Director, Minsk Tractor Works.

The sources said, MINFA has proposed to MTW to bring a detailed presentation along with financial feasibility to establish a tractor manufacturing plant in Punjab which is offering incentives for this purpose. The government has already allowed the farmers to purchase Belarusian tractors under the Benazir Tractor Scheme, according to which 10,000 tractors are being provided to the peasants on subsidized rates. “Belarusian tractors are very familiar in Pakistan, the company must set up a manufacturing plant,” the sources quoted Gondal.

According to sources, MINFA has also proposed to MTW to export Pakistan made tractors to the neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Iran and Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Presently, Shahzad Trade Links, who is the exclusive agent of MTW, is importing tractors to supply countrywide with his dealers’ network.

“If you set up manufacturing plant in Pakistan, government will extend all possible facilities,” Nazar Gondal said. staff report
